When you decide to lay a new carpet on the floor of your room, it’s no small matter. The carpet has to be fitted to the room, and this can be challenging unless you are a seasoned professional. You have two options in a situation like this: call in professionals, or step in and do it yourself.

There are many professional carpet fitters in the Liverpool area, and if you choose to go that route, you have but to pick the one that works best for you. If you can find one with good prices and quality service, that can save you a lot of time, and potentially a lot of ruined material. You can probably find a few services that you can get quotes from and compare.

Getting a professional to do the job is the safest way to go, and most likely the way you should choose. However, if you feel adventurous, resourceful, or simply can’t afford a professional job right now, there is also the option of doing it yourself. This method doesn’t mean you won’t be spending anything though.

When you decide to fit your carpet yourself, there are a few tools of the trade you have to procure for yourself. You need a carpet fitting knife, a carpet stretcher, a staple gun or hammer, and a bolster. You also need an underlay to go beneath the carpet. You can get a whole carpet fitting kit online or in certain hardware stores, and all you will need is that and the underlay.

The first thing to do is to completely clean the floor you are going to carpet. Make sure everything is smooth, and that there are no small objects on the floor. If you accidentally forget a screw or a pebble, it’ll pretty much be there forever unless you remove the carpeting you just placed.

Once the area is clean and clear, put the carpet gripper in place. Nail it to the ground leaving a bit of space around the edges for the carpet. Next place the underlay on the floor in a way that overlaps the gripper. You will then need to lay and fit the carpet according to the size of the room, and that is the hard part. It needs to be cut and trimmer perfectly so that there are no areas which stick out or don’t fit. You also have to be careful of doorways and special areas along the edge that may stick out.

Laying a carpet can be a fulfilling and fun task to do yourself, but you have to be very careful and precise when doing it. It’s something that you can’t do hastily, or you might ruin the carpeting you’ve bought for the purpose. When in doubt of your skills just hire a service and save yourself trouble. There are great services in Liverpool that can get the job done for a good price.
