When you decide to lay a new carpet on the floor of your room, it’s no small matter. The carpet has to be fitted to the room, and this can be challenging unless you are a seasoned professional. You have two options in a situation like this: call in professionals, or step in and do it yourself.

There are many professional carpet fitters in the Liverpool area, and if you choose to go that route, you have but to pick the one that works best for you. If you can find one with good prices and quality service, that can save you a lot of time, and potentially a lot of ruined material. You can probably find a few services that you can get quotes from and compare.

Getting a professional to do the job is the safest way to go, and most likely the way you should choose. However, if you feel adventurous, resourceful, or simply can’t afford a professional job right now, there is also the option of doing it yourself. This method doesn’t mean you won’t be spending anything though.

When you decide to fit your carpet yourself, there are a few tools of the trade you have to procure for yourself. You need a carpet fitting knife, a carpet stretcher, a staple gun or hammer, and a bolster. You also need an underlay to go beneath the carpet. You can get a whole carpet fitting kit online or in certain hardware stores, and all you will need is that and the underlay.

The first thing to do is to completely clean the floor you are going to carpet. Make sure everything is smooth, and that there are no small objects on the floor. If you accidentally forget a screw or a pebble, it’ll pretty much be there forever unless you remove the carpeting you just placed.

Once the area is clean and clear, put the carpet gripper in place. Nail it to the ground leaving a bit of space around the edges for the carpet. Next place the underlay on the floor in a way that overlaps the gripper. You will then need to lay and fit the carpet according to the size of the room, and that is the hard part. It needs to be cut and trimmer perfectly so that there are no areas which stick out or don’t fit. You also have to be careful of doorways and special areas along the edge that may stick out.

Laying a carpet can be a fulfilling and fun task to do yourself, but you have to be very careful and precise when doing it. It’s something that you can’t do hastily, or you might ruin the carpeting you’ve bought for the purpose. When in doubt of your skills just hire a service and save yourself trouble. There are great services in Liverpool that can get the job done for a good price.

For many us, one of our regular weekend activities includes cleaning our cars and/or vans. It’s something that gives great satisfaction in the final product of a job well done and a shiny, clean vehicle. Cleaning your vehicle may seem simple, but there’s more to it than meets the eye, do’s and don’ts that can make it easier or more difficult and things to watch for as well to avoid scratching or damaging the surface. One of the best ways to keep a new car finish is through frequent washing.

When to wash your car?
It’s best not to wait for things to build up before deciding to wash. Many of the things that accumulate on our car’s surface leach acids that with time can strip away the wax and eat into the paint.

It’s good to wash off bird droppings, dead bugs and mist from tree-sap as soon as you can. Aside from this, washing your car weekly will help preserve the finish. If the area you live in suffers from acid rain, you will also want to rinse your car after a time of rain or else acidic chemicals from the rainwater may stay on the surface and once evaporated leave a permanent mark that can mar the paint.

What to use
Some of the household cleaning supplies you should avoid using on the paint are hand soap, dishwashing soap or glass cleaner as it may take off the protective wax.
There are car-wash products available that are made especially for car paint. The suds can be applied with a large, soft sponge.

Other points
It’s best not to wash your vehicle when the body of the car is hot, for example, right after driving it or when it’s been parked in the sun for a time. Soap and water dry faster with the heat making it harder to wash and increase the chances of streaks.

Also, don’t move your sponge in circle as this can make light but visible scratches or “swirl marks”. It’s best to move the sponge lengthwise across the outer areas of the car. If your sponge should drop on the ground, be sure to rinse it well as it can pick up particles that may scratch the paint.

Rinse your vehicle with water before you start washing to remove any loose dirt that may cause scratching. When you wash, work on one section at a time. Wash and rinse each area before moving to the next area, thus rinsing the soap before it dries.
Work the soap into a sudsy lather to give lots of lubrication on the surface of the paint and rinse the sponge often.

Drying the vehicle
Use a chamois or soft terry material. It’s better to blot the water up. You can speed up the process using a squeegee. Remove most of the water and just make sure the rubber is flexible and doesn’t pick up particles that can scratch.

Jet washing, or as it is more commonly known pressure washing, is an extremely effective and fast way of cleaning things.

How it works: a fast and pressurised stream of water shoots out of a nozzle which you can direct, and the velocity of the water makes it an extremely good cleaning tool. Oftentimes a good jet washer will have a nozzle that allows for a range of different power options, making it possible to clean both mildly and forcefully.

Jet washers cannot be used for every surface, as some will be ruined or damaged. Some surfaces hold up better than others to the forcefulness of the pressure washer, and you must be careful about what you choose to wash. Usually, jet washers are really useful for outdoor, and certain very major indoor projects.

One of the ways jet washers can be used extremely effectively is to wash patios and driveways. Driveways and patios are some of the most durable things in your whole house, and so cleaning them with your pressure washer is a great idea. Oftentimes the dirt and grime that gets onto these surfaces is extremely hard to get off, and only the power of a jet washer is sufficient for a proper cleaning.

If you are going to clean your patio or driveway, the first thing you should do is completely clear it. Remove all furniture, plants, toys, cars, and garbage first of all, thereby ensuring that none of those things get damaged or soaked. If there are leaves or small pieces of garbage littered about, then you need to get rid of them as well, as they’ll only get in the way of a good cleaning. Sweeping your driveway or patio is probably a good idea as well.

Once the surface is cleared and swept, you should then do a first scrub with a broom and some soapy water. Get some warm soapy water onto the floor and scrub it into the floor well. If there is a lot of grime and dirt, then spend a little extra time scrubbing.

Once you’ve scrubbed the whole area, turn your jet washer onto the area. The powerful stream of water will work wonders, clearing away any dirt that your scrubbing failed to remove. Work in an organized way so that all the dirty and soapy water gets cleared away and you are left with a fresh, clean surface. Wait a few hours before driving on the surface or replacing the items.

If you want quality and speed in your cleaning then a jet washer is an extremely good investment. You may not realize how often you’ll end up using it and how much time and energy you’ll save by it.
